Wyoming Water Data Available Through Several Channels
The most recent streamflow and ground-water level data in Wyoming are
available from the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) on the
internet and in print. The internet site features current
information on 59 streamflow locations and 69 observation wells
in and near Wyoming. The data, collected in cooperation with
many local, State, and Federal agencies can be accessed through
links from the Wyoming USGS home page, http://wy.water.usgs.gov/
The web page describing Current Wyoming Streamflow Conditions is updated every hour, every day of the week by satellite transmissions from streamflow-gaging stations.
The figure below shows recent streamflow conditions on
the North Platte River above Seminoe Reservoir. Graphs such as this can be used by
water managers or recreationalists to monitor streamflow conditions on many rivers and streams.
In addition to
real-time data, information on streamflow statistics,
historical streamflows, and station descriptions also are
available.

Ground-water levels are measured in 69 observation
wells in 15 counties in Wyoming. The wells are located mainly
in areas where ground water is used in large quantities for
irrigation or municipal purposes. Currently, continuous
records of water levels are collected from 53 wells, and hand-measured data are collected at 16 wells.
Information and graphs of the water-levels in each well are prepared and placed on
the new Wyoming District Ground-Water
Program site, accessable from the USGS home page.
In addition to all of the data available through the internet,
the USGS summarizes the data collected during a year and
publishes an annual data report. These reports can be found in many
local and college libraries in Wyoming or at the USGS offices in Cheyenne, Casper,
and Riverton.
